As much as we could, we want to give the best to our furry friends. From the best food to the best toys, and when the need arises, we want to provide them with the best medical treatment as well. Sadly, there are times when we can’t afford to do that. Even though we love our pups, not everyone has the money to provide everything their dog needs.
At the young age of 11, Zykirah Hilton knew how this felt. Zykirah has an adorable one-year-old pup named Scrappy. Scrappy is a healthy and energetic dog, but he got injured on his front right paw. He was severely hurt and needed medical treatment, but Zykirah’s family couldn’t afford it.
Zykirah loves Scrappy so much and hates to see him suffer. She says that seeing Scrappy in pain makes her sad, and when Scrappy is hurt, it is as if she is hurting too. Though her dad couldn’t afford to give Scrappy medical care, he tried to help him in another way. So Zakirah’s dad reached out to Jennifer Gallagher.
Jennifer is also an animal lover. So when Zakirah’s dad asked her for help, she immediately met Scrappy and examined him. Unfortunately, she realized that she couldn’t do much for the pup.
Jennifer was aware of the family’s financial issues. Though she couldn’t do much for the Scrappy, Jennifer gave them what would be the family’s solution to their problem. She suggested that they write to Dr. Jessica Loch.
Immediately, Zakirah started working on her letter. She explained to Dr. Jessica why she was writing to her. She also made sure to write down how important Scrappy is to her and her family. She put much effort into her simple but heartfelt letter.
Dr. Jessica was very touched by the letter. She saw how important Scrappy is to Zakirah and decided to examine the pup for free! After the check-up, they found out that Scrappy’s wound was an untreatable fracture.
To save him, he has to undergo surgery to amputate his leg. Zakirah’s family didn’t have to worry about the medical bills. Wags 4 Wishes and Chick n’ Pups Canine Crusade donated willingly for Scrappy’s surgery.
It made Zakirah sad that they had to amputate her best friend’s leg, but she knew that they had to do it for Scrappy to get well. After a few weeks of recovering from the surgery, Scrappy was ready to go home. Zakirah was delighted to have her pup back, and she even said that she wanted to be a veterinarian when she grows up. She wants to be just like Dr. Jessica and save animals’ lives.
